CDO To Promote Rainwater Harvesting Technology

Cagayan de Oro City under the administration of Mayor Oscar Moreno will join hands with selected highly urbanized cities nationwide to promote rainwater harvesting technology to address the country’s rising demand for water supply.
Rainwater Harvesting Technology
This after the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Strengthening Urban Resilience for Growth with Equity (SURGE) Project initiated yesterday an online orientation on rainwater harvesting as one of the measures to mitigate the impact of climate change.
The purpose of rainwater harvesting technology is to collect and store rainwater from the rooftop, residential, commercial, and industrial buildings using steel or plastic tanks or concrete ground storage tank and other devices with the aim of meeting the demand for adequate water for human consumption.
It can be recalled that Cagayan de Oro City is one of the pilot cities of the SURGE project, along with cities of Batangas, Legazpi, and Puerto Princesa in Luzon; Iloilo and Tagbilaran in the Visayas; and General Santos and Zamboanga in Mindanao.
The SURGE Project has three objectives: 1) Improve local capacity in inclusive and resilient urban development; 2) Improve the environment for local economic development; and 3) Expand economic connectivity and access between urban and rural areas. (IAF/CIO)
