Cagayan de Oro Dumpsite Planted About 2,000 Tree Seedlings

This is really good news to Kagay-anons for converting the dumpsite into a tree park. With the help of the environment officials of Cagayan de Oro City and underprivileged individuals last April 15, 2016 they planted about 2,000 seedlings in a former dump site at Upper Dagong, Brgy. Carmen, to turn the vicinity into a tree park.

If you remember, this dumpsite was closed last 2010 on orders of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the compliance with the Ecological Waste Management Law. This dumpsite has a land area of 17 hectares and good thing they decided to use it now.

The rehabilitation of this project has a budget of P98 million. Mabelin said a total of five hectares will be covered by the second round of the tree growing project as part of the city’s tree adoption program, which covers varieties of teakwood, acacia, narra and golden shower trees.

The first tree planting was conducted last October, when one thousand trees were planted.
