Krispy Kreme To Use Davao Malagos Chocolate

Global doughnut chain Krispy Kreme is set to launch a Davao-exclusive doughnut using Malagos Chocolate. The award-winning single-origin chocolate maker was chosen for its famous “tree-to-bar” concept.

During an interview at the Araw ng Dabaw held in SM City Davao, Relations Officer (Mindanao) Princess Payag said that this part of the company’s initiative to launch products with ingredients sourced within a particular operating area. “We will be featuring the Malagos Chocolates, so their chocolate will be our source of our raw materials for this particular featured product which will be offered only for Davao,” Payag said.

In 2016, Krispy Kreme launched a regionalized strawberry doughnut, exclusively available in Baguio City. After Davao, the company is looking into making featured products for other provinces such as Cebu and Bacolod.

The Malagos Chocolate doughnut is set to launch this April. While it is not yet known if it will be available nationwide, Krispy Kreme is open to the idea of locally-sourcing its chocolates for all chocolate-based products.

Meanwhile, for its #EveryOneIsAnOriginal campaign, ten indigenous kids from various Davao tribes experienced a factory tour and “create your own doughnut” activity from Krispy Kreme. According to Payag, the campaign helps “celebrate person’s individuality, showcasing different tribes and cultures of Davao.” With the help of Hope Organization, the doughnut chain invited lumad kids from Tausug, Maranao, Kagan and Badjao tribes.

An Araw ng Dabaw promo was also launched, offering three chocolate glazed and three original glazed doughnuts for only P149. The promo runs from March 15 to 18.
