Who is Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach

The Miss Universe 2015 pageant may be over, but the most controversial edition of the pageant in its 64-year history will forever be remembered and is here to stay.
After the non-conventional crowning of Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as the winner, outrage sparked from both sides of fans from all over the world.

Some may be happy and some may feel bad, but the crowning fiasco could be good for Wurtzbach as she is now forever etched in history.

ABC News reported five things everyone should know about the newly-crowned Miss Universe.

1. Wurtzbach was born in Struttgart, Germany and grew up in Cagayan de Oro. Her father, who passed away last year, is  German while her mother is a Filipina. The beauty queen speaks Filipino, English and German.

2. She was a former actress and child star. When her parents separated, at age 11, she was already the breadwinner of her family. She was signed with Star Magic and has acted in TV and film under the stage name Pia Romero.

3. Aside from being a beauty queen and an actress, Wurtzbach is also a trained chef. After finishing high school, she studied culinary arts at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in Manila. She is also a stylist and a writer for the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

4. She may have dated President Benigno S. Aquino III, though she only said that “I know him. I talk to him, yes. He’s very fun to talk to”, when asked by presidential sister Kris Aquino during an interview on the show “Aquino and Abunda Tonight”.

5. She only started competing in beauty pageants in 2013. Wurtzbach may have looked like a veteran, but the 5’8″ beauty queen only started competing until 2013. She joined three times in the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, before winning in 2015 as Binibining Pilipinas 2015 – Universe to represent the country in the Miss Universe 2015 pageant in Las Vegas.

And the rest is history. The Philippines waited for 42 years for its third Miss Universe to come.

The victory may be sweet, but what’s ahead for Wurtzbach could be sweeter, as she is set to prove the world — the universe, rather — that she is indeed “confidently beautiful with a heart” during her one-year reign as Miss Universe.
