South Korea Lifts Travel Alert in Cagayan de Oro

South Korea on Monday lifted its travel alert for 2 cities in Mindanao, citing improving security conditions in the southern Philippines.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the special travel advisory for the cities of Davao and Cagayan de Oro is now lifted.

Seoul last year issued travel warnings to its citizens regarding the 2 Philippine cities following the implementation of martial law and the firefight between government troops and Islamic State-inspired groups.

President Rodrigo Duterte last year first placed Mindanao under military rule on May 23.

Congress later on extended martial law in Mindanao until the end of 2018 to quell the threat of terrorism.
