New Homes to be Provided for 48,000 Families in Mindanao

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) announced that four local government units (LGUs) in Mindanao have committed to providing housing projects that will benefit 48,000 families in Mindanao. The LGUs of Cagayan de Oro, Gingoog, Opol in Misamis Oriental, and Tubod, Lanao del Norte have partnered with DHSUD, and more than 60 hectares of land are to be developed in these areas for medium to high-rise buildings under the government’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino Housing (4PH) program.

During the signing of the agreements, Housing Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar emphasized the importance of local government units in the housing project implementation. He recognized that each number in the country’s housing backlog of 6.5 million represents a family in need of a home. The 4PH program aims to build one million housing units annually until 2028 to address the backlog.

The DSHUD has signed agreements with more than 130 LGUs across the country, indicating the program’s scope and the government’s commitment to resolving the housing problem in the Philippines.
