Power Shortage During Summer

A glowing sunset serves as stunning backdrop to the power lines of the Stage State Power’s 210 megawatts coal power plant in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. Mindanao’s recurring power shortage was expected to become crucial during the summer months when the hydro-electric power plants experienced low water level.

Mindanao is brief in power capability. Because the population grows and because the economy of Mindanao prospers, the demand of power conjointly will increase. that’s a truth immediately.

Last Senatorial Elections of 2013 I asked few senatorial candidates who was visited Cagayan de Oro why not use Solar Energy to stop the power shortage of Mindanao but most of them answered that Philippines is not yet ready for the Solar System.

FYI, in Mindanao we’ve got Diesel, Geothermal, Coal and Hydro as major players in providing its individuals electricity. These sources are FINITE and DWINDLING whereas Solar Energy has continually been there for the longest time and has been used by alternative quick growing countries.

CEPALCO an electric company in Cagayan de Oro build the country’s first electric company to use solar power for their new office building in masterson’s avenue, uptown cagayan de oro.

My question is why Government will not support Solar Energy in Mindanao.? Did they see the advantage of this Energy or they just think for there own good because they know that there is no more money for them if this solar energy will approve.

  • Solar Energy is much more cleaner and greener than other power plants.
  • Less maintenance.
  • Solar energy is renewable.
  • Solar panels are extremely reliable.
  • Solar cells make no noise while collecting energy.
  • In the long run, solar electricity is cheaper than buying it from the power company.
  • You’re not required to connect to the power grid.
  • Sell excess electricity.
  • Government tax credits.
  • Solar technology is constantly improving.

The following are the prevailing Renewable Energy Technology

Wind – All located in LUZON
Ocean – All located in LUZON
Hydro – Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao
Biomass – principally in Luzon and Visayas
Solar – Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao (the one MW we’ve got in Cagayan de Oro)

Now, did you recognize that notwithstanding those Renewable Energy Technologies are largely located and consumed by the individuals from Luzon and Visayas, how about Mindanao..??
