Out of 21,825 Drug Personalities Surrendered, 1,528 Are From Cagayan de Oro

In just 12 days when the new President of the Philippines start his duty and seriously campaigned against drugs, at least 21,800 suspected drug users and pushers have yielded to authorities since July 1, and expressed willingness to finally end their dependency on illegal drugs, the Police Regional Office 10 (PRO10) based in Cagayan de Oro City reported Tuesday.

Superintendent Surki Alday Sereñas, spokesperson of PRO10, said they are overwhelmed with the number of drug dependents who came out in the open.

“As of the moment we have an estimate of 21,825 individuals from different parts of Region 10 who came out in the open and presented their willingness to change and stop being drug dependents,” said Sereñas.

Sereñas gave the breakdown of the regional figure:

• 3,847 individuals from Iligan City;
• 1,528 from Cagayan de Oro City
• 4,625 from Misamis Oriental;
• 4,345 for Misamis Occidental;
• 4,265 for Bukidnon;
• 3,050 from Lanao del Norte; and 165 from Camiguin island.

Sereñas expressed optimism that more people will surrender in the next few days.

The PRO10 records also pointed out that none of those who yield to barangay and police authorities were sent to prison or had cases filed against them. From July 1 to 12, 2016 only about 65 suspected illegal drug dependents and pushers where arrested throughout the region, with Cagayan de Oro City having the highest of about 37 individuals.

President Duterte also received the +79 trusted ratings for the 12 days.
